The Freedom Bill and Jobseekers

The government today have announced the Freedom Bill. Amongst several changes the CRB ‘Criminal Records Bureau’ and the ISA ‘Independent Safeguarding Authority’ will merge to form a more streamlined new body providing a barring and criminal records checking service.

One very interesting element of the new system is ‘portability of criminal record checks between jobs’, said to cut down on needless bureaucracy.

This is a welcome change in the opinion of Charles Hunter Associates, so long as the checks are regulated and carried out annually. There will also need to be a defined and robust portability procedure ensuring stringent verification regarding checks carried out by other providers. The great news for job seekers is that this change will significantly speed up the recruitment process, meaning there is less of a wait in order to start both temporary and permanent processes. A help to those in need to be in a job as well as the services who desperately need skilled and qualified workers to undertake them.
